From the very first page, A Court of Mist and Fury had me completely hooked. Sarah J. Maas continues to blow me away with her storytelling, world-building, and emotional depth. This sequel in the A Court of Thorns and Roses series elevates everything I loved about the first book and then takes it several steps further. The twists, the surprises, and the romantic tension—it’s all there, and it’s addictive.
One of the standout elements for me was how Maas explores trauma and healing through Feyre’s journey. Watching her slowly find herself again after her harrowing experiences in the Spring Court was powerful and emotional. Enter Rhysand—mysterious, powerful, and fiercely loyal. Let’s just say I’m firmly on Team Rhys. His dynamic with Feyre is intense and layered, and their bond (especially once it’s fully revealed) was everything I hoped for and more.
Maas doesn’t just give us romance and angst though—she delivers action, political intrigue, and some truly shocking moments. The tension between characters, the battle scenes, and the emotional revelations kept me on the edge of my seat. The attack on Velaris was especially gut-wrenching, and I genuinely felt shocked to my core when it happened.
One twist I didn’t see coming was the revelation about Elaine and Nesta. Their transformation, along with Lucien’s new connection to Elaine, adds even more intrigue for what’s to come. The moment Nesta and Cassian lock eyes? I need more of that dynamic, please. And Lucien? His loyalty, especially when faced with Tamlin’s betrayal and alliance with the King of Hybern, left me with so many questions. I’m curious to see if he’ll ever redeem himself.
If there’s one thing I took away from this book, it’s this: Never assume you know what’s going to happen next. I was surprised time and again, and I loved every second of it. Sarah J.
